Passage: John 4:4-30

It’s easy to jump to conclusions about people without really knowing them. But who are your neighbors? What are their hopes and hurts, their hobbies and habits? Loving where you live begins by being present and listening.

Unifying Phrase: Following Jesus means living with curiosity.

  • People are a lot more complex than our first impressions. [Share the story from the beginning of Scott Sauls’ Befriend chapter 3 (see the context so you can give the ending)].
  • Oftentimes we put people in boxes off of the few things we know about them.
  • Jesus comes to care for people’s needs right where they are.
  • While we can’t know things perfectly like Jesus, listening helps open our eyes to our neighbors hopes, hurts, hobbies, and habits.
  • As we listen and are curious, we can give value, build relationship, discover avenues for sharing hope.
