About WL Preschool
Our mission is to share the love and Good News of Jesus Christ, while providing children and families with excellence in early education.
We Believe...
At Woodbury Lutheran Preschool, We Believe:
Children learn best by doing. In our school year program, each child is lovingly nurtured in an environment where they are fully loved and known as unique creations of God.
- Children are active learners who engage through touch, exploration, experimentation, and creation, fostering curiosity and discovery.
- Play is the cornerstone of our academic learning, providing a joyful and meaningful foundation for growth in all developmental areas.
- Children spend time in vibrant classrooms designed to inspire active learning, guided by exceptional teaching staff who nurture their unique potential.
- Our dedicated teachers intentionally plan and guide learning experiences that provide a strong foundation for academic success, rooted in Christ’s love.
Preschool Programs
At Woodbury Lutheran Preschool, we cherish your child’s curiosity, friendships, and growing independence. With small class sizes, we provide the love, attention, and care they need to thrive in these important early years. Check out our programming below to see how we can support your family!
Early Preschool
For children 30 months and older by September 1, Early Preschool is an opportunity to learn and explore in an age appropriate classroom created with their needs in mind. Nurturing staff will support early cognitive and social skills in this environment where faith learning and care intersect for your child.
Mixed Age Preschool
Woodbury Lutheran Preschool offers a variety of classes for 3 year olds who will be turning 4 and 4 year olds who will be turning 5. Mixed age class learning promotes increased social development, opportunities for learning about different perspectives, creative play and a strong community feeling. With our smaller class sizes, your child will get the support to foster cognitive skill development to learn and grow. Children who are part of our mixed age classrooms are well prepared and thrive in their kindergarten experiences. Enrollment in mixed age preschool is open to children who will be 3 or older by September 1st and must be toilet trained.
High 5's
High 5's allows children who are turning 5 during the summer or before November 1st to have another year of preschool before kindergarten. High 5's builds on skills from previous preschool experiences and in addition to play based learning, there are additional small and large group experiences that allow children to continue to be challenged and grow in meaningful ways as they prepare for kindergarten.
Extended Learning (Care)
WLP offers before and after care for children enrolled at WLP on the days they attend preschool. Care is available before school from 8am-9am and after school from 2pm-4pm. Extended care is staffed with experienced teachers that lovingly care for children in order for families to have the flexibility they need to provide their child with a full preschool experience. Care is scheduled by the semester based on the family's needs.
Goals for Learning
One of the most important curriculum goals is to help children become enthusiastic learners. We strive to provide a balance of child-directed play/exploration with appropriate teacher-directed activities to provide a well-rounded experience. We focus on goals in all areas of development:
- SOCIAL: Develop the ability to interact with peers and adults respectfully, form positive relationships, and gain increasing awareness of belonging to a family, community, culture, and program.
- EMOTIONAL: Learn to feel comfortable in school, trust their new environment, grow in self-esteem, independence, self-control, and develop a positive attitude toward life.
- COGNITIVE: Become confident learners by acquiring learning skills such as the ability to apply and adapt strategies to solve problems, listen attentively, ask questions, use words to describe thoughts and feelings, and engaging in early reading, writing, and math experiences.
- PHYSICAL: Develop large and small muscle skills and develop understanding about healthy and safe living practices.
- SPIRITUAL: Bible stories, verses, songs, prayer, and discussion of scriptural truths and values help support children's spiritual development and are an integral part of each child's learning experience.
Purpose
Woodbury Lutheran Preschool is a ministry of Woodbury Lutheran Church. We believe that each child is a precious gift from God, uniquely created and deeply loved by Him. Our ministry seeks to ensure that every child feels known as an individual, valued in their abilities, and guided in their journey to know Jesus as their Savior and friend. Through intentional teaching, prayerful care, and a focus on God’s Word, we partner with families to raise children who reflect His love and truth in all they do.
Class Sizes & Support
Class Sizes
Small class sizes are intentionally provided to ensure your child has the individual attention he/she needs and deserves on a daily basis.
Support
We receive special needs support when indicated from School District 833, provide education and support services references for parents when requested, and are committed to open communication with parents in supporting the individual needs of children. We also partner with organizations such as Help Me Grow and Center for Inclusive Child Care to support children, their teachers and their parents to make early learning successful.
