Passage: Deuteronomy 7:1-11

Being chosen as the Lord’s holy people is not a right, but a privilege. Israel did nothing to deserve it. God chose Israel because he loved them and sought to reveal himself to the rest of the world through them. Jesus comes as the fulfillment of the promise made to Abraham. Though we have done nothing to deserve it, through Jesus sacrifice we are made holy.

Teaching Points: Unifying Phrase:  It’s a Privilege, Not a Right

  • Since Genesis, Israel has continually been born from the smallest and weakest families.
  • Israel thrives because YHWH has promised to faithfully protect, love, and watch over them.
  • Because YHWH is faithful, Jesus came down to earth to make us holy through his sacrifice.
  • Being made holy by Jesus changes the way we live.
