Passage: Matthew 26:17-30
In most trials, the sentence comes after the verdict. A person finds out their sentence after being declared guilty. However, in the trial Jesus was on for the sins of the world, Jesus knows the sentence up front. In an intimate scene with his disciples, Jesus shares that to confirm the covenant between God and his people, a sacrifice must be made. A punishment must be satisfied. The twist of it all is that it is not the blood of a lamb, but rather, his own blood - the lamb of God who came to take away the sins of the world.
