Passage: Matthew 26:36-46

As Jesus goes by himself to pray, he enters into a plea hearing, not with the prosecutor, but with the judge of the trial: his own Father. In a normal plea hearing, the defense is seeking to come to an agreement with the other side to avoid the trial. This was no ordinary plea hearing as the defense, amidst the agony of what is to come, sets aside his own desires and submits fully to the plan of his Father. Jesus did not run away from the trial, but submitted fully to it for us.
