When Jesus returns, it will be for judgment. We say this every communion Sunday in the Apostles’ creed: “and he will come to judge the living and the dead.” But we may in fact be in danger of inoculating ourselves to this reality by so frequently exposing ourselves to it. Jesus’ parable of the sheep and the goats and John’s vision of judgment day speak to the same future event. These Scriptures sound scary, but more importantly is that we realize that they’re serious. Because if we take them seriously now, we’ll have nothing to fear then.
