At creation God set lights in the sky—the sun, moon, and stars—to give light to the earth and “to separate the light from the darkness.” (Genesis 1 :18) In John 1 we have a parallel creation account where Jesus is identified as the one through whom all things were created. Jesus, John tells us, is the Light that shines in the darkness, giving light to everyone (John 1:9)
