Passage: Isaiah 53:1-12

Tonight, a verdict will be handed down. Jesus is on trial, and the seven vignettes will walk us through that trial. After the opening vignette which summarizes what is to follow, the next five will be affidavits given of the account of Jesus’s life in story form to determine whether he is guilty or not. Yet, these five affidavits will create a sharp dissonance as each one portrays Jesus in the most beautiful light possible. After Jesus is set up as the most beautiful, innocent person, each vignette makes a sharp turn at the end and closes in the same refrain: “But God made him who knew no sin to become sin for us. Guilty (to the noise of a gavel).” The final vignette closes with the verdict being handed down upon Jesus, closing with the strepitus as the final gavel sounds.
